Texas Snakes

January 8th, 2009

The South of the United States is the home of many kinds of snakes and lizards that pose very little threat to human health. The majority of Texas snakes are non-poisonous or very slightly venomous for their hunt, but in case of a human injury there would basically be no problems. Two exceptions need specification: the groups and subgroups known as coral snakes and pit vipers. In recent years there have been less snake bites not only in Texas but everywhere in the United States because of a superior awareness of the fact that snakes have the same rights to living in the habitat as we do. Thus, people should understand that the snake attacks when it feels threatened and the resulting envenomation is the result of a pure defensive act.

Texas Snakes

The most widely spread Texas snakes are pit vipers: they include sub-groups like the rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths. Each group has peculiarities that render the specimens not so difficult to recognize and thus to avoid. One will recognize Texas snakes like the copperheads by the red-brown cross lines in their body patterns, while cottonmouths will stand out by the shades of green, solid black and olive. When threatened the latter will open their mouths and hiss menacingly. The name of this species comes from the white tissue in their mouth that gets visible when they threaten possible aggressors.

Stopping Dog Aggression

January 5th, 2009

There is always a reason for aggressive behavior in dogs. If you can discover the reason for the aggression, you can usually correct or at least control a dog’s aggression. Some breeds of dogs have gotten a really bad reputation of late; pit bulls, rottweilers, and chows, for example. Some breeds are even forbidden in certain communities. This is just sad. Aggressive dogs are MADE and not born. All puppies come into this world completely innocent. They are like blank slates that have yet to be written upon, and they become products of their environment and training, or lack thereof.

There are many breeds of dogs. There are large breed dogs and small breed dogs; long hair dog breeds and short hair dog breeds; but there are simply not aggressive breeds and nonaggressive breeds.

Dog aggression is caused by health issues, environment issues, or training issues. There are, of course, several subheadings under all of these causes for dog aggression.

Organic dog food should be given in very much the identical style as commercial dog food for instance, if your dog currently eats a cup of dry food per day, so the comparable amount of your home-cooked food should be adequate.
